After having visited the now abandoned (for the most part) Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, I've determined that it is definitely a boon for UrbExers. Poking around in the remains of an old, derelict site like this is like a dream come true. That said, this is a Superfund site and highly toxic and pretty radioactive from naval nuclear waste disposal, so if you are an urbexer and must explore, take any and every precaution possible and remember that it is at your own risk.
With regard to any art created from your urban exploration, there is a Shipyard Trust for the Arts (STAR), a 501(c)(3) you can contact about affordable art studios and workspace supporting the Bayview/Hunter’s Point community art programs and exhibition opportunities.
Having recently been to visit the new housing development, which overlooks the shipyard and is very nice, one has to wonder if these people know they are at serious risk of developing some really nasty health issues. Just saying.
