I wish I lived in Ballard because this neighborhood gets all the winners when it comes to restaurants. Delancey is one of the gems- it has all the appeal of a neighborhood restaurant- a cozy interior, friendly service, and delicious pizza.
Seattle has a lot of great pizza joints, each one with its own style. Delancey leans more towards New York-style pizza: thin, crispy crusts and not too much sauce. Depending on the season, they offer various toppings from local farms. Dessert is good here- I don't even like chocolate chip cookies and I like the one here. Like the 10-year-old inside me, I order a glass of milk to wash it down and they happily oblige.
Delancey is another "no reservations" place (unless your party is bigger than six) so I just arrive during the first seating at 17:00. It gives me the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely dinner. It may sound early, but it gets dark by 16:00 in the winter here! (And if it's summer, just order another round of pizza!)
Call ahead before you have your heart settled on this delicious pizza, as they sometimes close for unofficial holidays/staff events.
