Knyazhevo pathway to Vitosha is suitable for either a short walk among the pines, taking a break at the wooden tables, and hiking to a cabin or anywhere in Vitosha National Park.
It's the most accessible area of the mountain from the city. You can take tram number 5 from the very center (National courthouse) and go on until its last stop at Knyazhevo garden. Then look for the fountain just after the stop, take the stairs above it and when you see a big restaurant in front (big letters - "Бор") you know you are there. You should not forget to take note of the few centenarian oaks which stand next to the restaurant.
There are many possible routes one can take from Knyajevo, e.g.
Knyazhevo - area Byalata voda (White water) - area Zlatnite mostove (Golden bridges). Path marking - yellow, band. (~2h 30min)
Knyazhevo - area Byalata voda - Momina skala cabin (Maiden's Cliff) - Rodina hut - Tintyava cabin - Bor hut. Marking - yellow, poles. (2h 30min)
Knyazhevo - area Byalata voda - Malinarski pat (Raspberry road) - area Karpouzov Valog - Planinishki polyani (Mountain lawn) - Planinets cabin. (2h)
Anyway if you're not that into hiking and just want to breathe some fresh air you can just hang around the alley. If so, make sure you go to the open ground, where the old lift used to pass and witness a clear view of the city from above. Come wintertime this aisle becomes a slide for sleighs and even beginner skiers.
