About me
I graduated from the University of Warsaw with a degree in Applied Linguistics (MA) and Text Edition (post-diploma) as well as Cultural Diplomacy (post-diploma). Currently I work for the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation on various projects strengthening Polish-German
cooperation. I also do translate and edit texts, mostly from German into Polish.
I used to live in Scotland (Aberdeenshire, Perthshire, Isle of Skye), studied and worked there, I've lived in Berlin, where I also used to work. I am still emotionally related to those places. I am a split soul missing the Scottish nostalgia and the German city vibe. But to me Warsaw is still the place to be because my family and friends – the most important people in my life – live here.
I spend my free time mostly reading books, watching films, meeting friends and travelling around Warsaw / the Mazowian Woiwodship / Poland / Europe. I take photos of the places I visit to keep memories. I cook a lot and consider myself not a bad cook. I am an addicted and eager dog walker and free air therapy patient and I know most of the green spots – forests, bushes, riverbeds, whatever it may be – in and around the city.
Why Warsaw?
Recently I have moved to Ujazdów so I will be exploring the Czerniakow / Ujazdów area of Warsaw for you.
Warsaw is a very interesting place where new and old features come together. You will find relics of the communist system next to new housing estates or shopping “galleries” (yes, this very Polish word to describe a mall) and classical buildings from before the wars. All these make our city a nice melting point to visit.
There are so many splendid places to see, like for example the (even still quite new) POLIN museum, and the city is developing so quickly (see the example of Vistula’s riverbed), you cannot avoid getting the impression that tomorrow the city will be different from today. Also, foreigners come to Warsaw in growing numbers and contribute to the multicultural vibe I enjoy.
If you are a fan of PRL (People's Republic of Poland) design, you simply MUST visit "Vintage Kolektyw" cafe in Warsaw. Browsing here is highly educational!
