Met Kodra, established in 1957, is, in my humble opinion, the BEST place to buy qoftë in all of Tirana.
Walking through Pazari i Ri, you’d be hard-pressed not to be hit by wonderful aromas of grilled meat, fish and vegetables from all angles. However, there is something special about this place. Met Kodra carries nostalgia from simpler times; There are no bells and whistles - a charcoal fire, grill and qoftë. Perfection. True to tradition, the qoftë are made without salt and sprinkled with a salt mix once cooked, and your options are with or without bread. Simple.
It is also worth mentioning that this is one of the cheapest meals you can get your hands on in the capital. Qoftë come in at 35 lek each, and a simple bread roll is 15 lek, so you can pick up my usual order of 3 qoftë in a bun for only 120 lek. I can promise you that the price is not a reflection of the quality of the produce; these authentic and delicious morsels are truly the best in Tirana.
You can either take away or eat outside here, and, as all they serve is qoftë and bread, you are able to bring your own drinks, cheese, salad, or whatever else you would like should you choose to stay.
Whilst you might initially miss the tiny shop, I would wholeheartedly suggest a visit for anyone travelling in Tirana.
