Freedhome Store is the shop related to Freedhome, a project supported by many local institutions which promotes work inside penitentiaries spread all over Italy.
Active work during sentence time have proved to be extremely effective in the rehabilitation process of inmates, contributing to a drastic reduction of recidivism. This project, addressed by a series of cooperatives, brings real work inside prisons providing prisoners with new skills and know-how.
The results of this work: high quality products that go from printed t-shirts to pastries and from coffee to cosmetics are brought outside jails and sold into shops.
Freedhome Store is a shop that unites all of them and in my opinion is the perfect place to buy a gift or a souvenir when you are visiting Turin at the same time supporting a good and praiseworthy cause.
For example you could buy a mug or a t-shirt printed by inmates at the laboratory of Extraliberi (one of the cooperatives) at Lorusso e Cutugno Penitentiary of Turin or some yummy biscuits from the pastry factory of Banda Biscotti (another of the cooperatives) at Penitentiary of Verbania (in Piedmont).
Another option for a souvenir could be a special edition tile with Mole Antonelliana - the symbol of Turin, made at the Juvenile Penitentiary of Nisida (Naples) by Nesis cooperative.
