La Piquette Washington DC

French bistro

""La Piquette" in Washington DC is a French bistro that runs by the motto 'Quench and Feed'. The atmosphere is cozy & bustling, with a local crowd..."

Once upon a time, the block-long strip of Macomb Street NW bordered by Wisconsin Avenue NW and 38th Street was known for little more than the entry to a dilapidated parking lot -- but today, one can eat around the world in just this one block. For French cuisine, try La Piquette, whose motto is Quench and Feed.

Quench with house-made cocktails like Le Boulevardier and the French 75, a list of well-priced wines augmented by cheerful house wines sold by the carafe. Feed with French favorites such as steak frites, roast chicken, pate, and frisee salad with lardons. For dessert, a crispy creme brulee and silky chocolate mousse are good choices.

The atmosphere is cozy and bustling, with high top tables in the bar area and a good amount of sidewalk seating when the weather permits. The crowd is mostly local, but devotees come from all points of the DC metro area for Chef Layrle's fresh takes on bistro favorites.
