'And the award for the best Cordon Bleu of Zurich goes to... Restaurant Gertrudhof!'
If there really were a public award including this category, that's how the ceremony would sound. Year after year after year - because the Gertrudhof just knows how to prepare the perfect Cordon Bleu.
The interior of this slightly hidden restaurant near Idaplatz has a distinct rural Swiss ambience: wood paneled walls, traditional furniture and slightly tacky decorations give you a feel for the country's less urbanised parts - and sets the perfect stage to enjoy one of the most popular dishes in Switzerland.
On the restaurant's menu you'll find twelve different Cordon Bleu variations ranging from the classic 'Original' (ham, Raclette cheese & Gruyère cheese) to the more creative 'Toscana' (salami, dried tomatoes, garlic, basil and Raclette cheese). But since everything is freshly prepared on order, you can choose out of all available ingredients and combine them to your cravings. There's even the option to order a half-sized 'mini' - but who would ever want to do that? - or to double it up if you're really feeling ravenous.
Either way, you're very likely going to end up with the best Cordon Bleu you've ever tasted.
