If you want to see Zürich locals rummaging through gorgeous fruit and vegetables and waffling to the local butcher, this is the place to head to. You need to be up early to get all of the best produce, but it's definitely worth it.
The emphasis here is on regional produce of exceptional quality. Most of the stalls are run by local farmers who have been coming here for years, and they are happy to share their recipes, tips and food advice. I have a special soft spot for 'Lilli and Franc's' Italian stall. Here, they sell amazing cured meats, cheeses and pasta. You really can't beat their Parma ham and mortadella.
It's not as cheap as the supermarket, but it is far more inspiring and fun to mingle and get involved. When I'm feeling less flush, I just grab a seat at one of the cafés on the square and soak up the atmosphere.
