I enjoy jam sessions because they are so undefined and besides listening to great music you can observe how musicians build something altogether. The jam session I’m presenting here is organized by an association called Jazz Barage. The association was founded in 2001 and thus brings along a long history of jazz jam session that has been recognized outside of Zurich's borders. Since 2016, it takes place at Moods, a bar located in the beautiful industrial building of Schiffbau. The bar offers a relaxing atmosphere, with subdued lights, chairs and tables to listen to the artists comfortably. However, I have always known the place to be quite full and you might need to stand for a while. On a side note, you can also check the program of the Moods for other live concerts as it offers numerous events, ranging from jazz to hip-hop and world music.
Back to the jam session, it occurs every Wednesday from 8.30 pm. It starts with a small concert by a band before the floor opens to other musicians. The bands invited can be local but also international, enabling a rich musical exchange. There is an entry fee of 10CHF but an annual subscription exists as well, also at a student price.
What else to say… If you want to enjoy some good live jazz, you should definitely try out this jam session that is clearly flirting with professionalism.

Enjoy the incredibly aesthetic brutalist open space with high ceilings, soft concrete, and brass-finished elements. To complete the experience, take a seat in their art deco-inspired bar.

"Weisses Kreuz" in Zurich isn't fancy - it's probably what some people would call an 'old man's pub', but what other pub has a 'Stammtisch' for regulars?

I particularly like the variety of products they offer, which can make life a lot easier if you are gluten-free and they also have several vegan options.

It was made out of scrap metal and everyday objects and presents a nonsensical machine, a complex configuration of tubes, wheels, and motors.

The outside area is also worth a visit. You'll find a beautiful collection of palms and agave in a sandy environment crossed by a water basin with fishes.
