A good friend of mine who used to live in Paris claimed that the French kitchen is the best in the world. I never really subscribed to his opinion. I always found French cuisine expensive and unimaginative. No spices like Asian food. Small portions that forced you to lay hopes on dessert to definitely defeat your hunger. And then the bill...
So how about a French restaurant in Zurich? Sounds like a challenge (for the wallet also). Ok, I'd keep an open mind; however, it had better be good!
Welcome to "La Lumiere" in the old town of Zurich. The restaurant is located just opposite the Widder piano bar.
I was first introduced to the restaurant by friends and loved it. The ambiance is very pleasant. My positive experiences are from the Winter time. Cosy evenings before or after the holidays.
From a financial perspective, this is not a locale for regular visits. But it makes absolute sense to go on a special occasion and enjoy (and if the bill is on a company credit card, even better).
For a starter: beef tartar. Main course: entrecote Cafe de Paris. Dessert: "Mille Feuille" if available (reserve when you order main course) otherwise "Crema Catalana".
Although I associate my visits with cold winter evenings, I should mention that there is a nice terrace for the summer.
