Directly under Grossmünster, next to Münsterbrücke, you will find one of the best music shops in the region, which was founded over 200 years ago.
As you leave the bridge towards Niederdorf, the large five-storey building immediately catches your eye. On the ground floor behind the cash desk is a collection of all kinds of music books and sheets, a somewhat antiquarian-looking range of CDs. If you go further inside, there are some lovely music-related gifts, like an advent calendar that plays a different melody every day. There is also an interesting assortment of guitars, as well as a lounge where instruments can be tried out.
It is also worth taking the staircase to the upper floors, especially as the vaulted ceiling offers views of mezzanine floors or other parts of the building. Pianos, various strings, plucked and wind instruments are exhibited on the upper floors. I find the harps particularly impressive.
Anyone looking for an instrument will receive expert advice here. You can also get repair and tuning services at Musik Hug. I like to stop by to look at the music books, have a chat with one of the very experienced sales assistants, listen to prospective buyers testing their instruments, enjoy the artsy atmosphere and go home with a new piece to practise and lots of good intentions.
