While visiting Ghent you probably will enjoy all the sweet things Belgium has to offer. After eating lots of chocolate or Belgian fries and drinking liters of beer, you might be interested in a more healthy alternative.
Close to Vrijdagsmarkt you can find Souplounge. It's possible to sit downstairs, but the best places are on the first floor, where you can eat with a view on the river Lys. They offer 4 kind of soups every day. All of them are fresh and tasty. You can add some extra's to them like small meatballs, croutons, cheese, parsley, etc. Every soup is accompanied by bread and a piece of fruit. They also sell sandwiches and salads.
It has become a popular spot as it offers a good and healthy snack in the city center. When it gets colder it's a nice stopover to warm yourself and afterwards you'll be ready to explore more of the city.
