Imagine you have an uncle who is a bit eccentric, but he has this incredible passion for food and he travels around the globe in search of new spices, flavours, recipes... one more thing about him: he's vegetarian and he believes that we don't need meat or fish to create amazing dishes. It is very easy to have this image when you enter Betty's: there's only space for 4 or 5 tables with a maximum of 4 people each, so it feels like a private living room rather than a restaurant.
And then, the food! The first course usually consists of a tasting of different starters, none of which you will have ever eaten- Gido and his partner Lien are true creators in the sense that they constantly invent new dishes, new combinations of fresh vegetables prepared in a certain way with surprising spices added. What can I say to make you guys trust me? I just give you my word that this is the BEST restaurant in whole Amsterdam for me!
The deal is as follows: you don't choose what you eat in the first two courses, they have a fixed menu for two weeks, then they're up to new creations again. For dessert you can choose from a vitrine of great homemade cakes. Sweet and yummy :)!
Drinks are rather expensive but excellent quality, too -- all wines are natural wines from boutique winemakers.
Oops, this is important: you have to book weeks in advance, as it's such a small and exclusive place!
