You may be wondering where to try traditional Dutch cuisine while visiting Amsterdam. One place very dear to me is the restaurant “Moeders” (translated to mothers in English), which is close to the romantic Jordaan in Amsterdam.
It is a laid-back location that has existed since the 90s and was founded by mothers. One thing I realized was how difficult it is to find a typical Dutch restaurant when one of my many friends visited Amsterdam and Moeders was definitely able to fulfill this requirement.
Moeders serves delicious traditional Dutch dishes (like for example pea soup or the famous “stamppot” with mashed potatoes, sausage, and cabbage), and offers vegetarian and gluten-free options as well. The atmosphere is special, with its wooden decor complemented by walls covered in women's photos, which I find quite mesmerizing.
After dinner, I usually like to stroll through the canals of Jordaan. Don’t forget to pre-book (sometimes it is full 3-4 weeks ahead), as it is usually full, especially on weekends!
