Being a Brit abroad can be hard at times, and one of the things I miss most about home is the food. Luckily my mother is a great cook (hi mum if you're reading this) but I do miss being able to go out for a Sunday roast or a scone and a cuppa. The Cottage has been in Amsterdam East for a while now, so how I have just now discovered it is beyond me. Anyway, I'm glad I did! This little cafe is super cozy, the staff are lovely, and they serve (almost) all my favourite comfort foods.
To start with, they have amazing scones in daily changing special flavours like pistachio and lemoncurd (heavenly) served with clotted cream (the real deal) and home made jams. Other things on the menu include pies, fish of the day, more baked goods, and breakfast options. But the main show stopper here is the Sunday roast: it varies every week, but always comes with all the trimmings.
Nothing makes me happier than sitting in a cozy and warm cafe on a rainy Sunday afternoon, eating a roast with maybe more than one Yorkshire pudding, and The Cottage is the perfect place for it.
Note: make reservations on the weekends, especially for the Sunday roast!
