The fact that Anglais is located in Monastiraki but I barely see foreigners there can help you imaging how “secret” it is. This two-floor bar –the top one is an astonishing roof garden– offers not just drinks, food and coffees all day long but also breathtaking views. No matter if you are in the terrace or inside the bar in a cold day, your main duty there is to enjoy the view.
Right, I know what you are saying: “Ah, another Athenian rooftop”. If I was selfish I would just answer yes to that so that it's not crowded and I can have as great and relaxed a time as I have every time I go there. BUT you'd be missing the beautiful decoration, the great service, the surprising and imaginative menu and the –and here you have my personal opinion– the most amazing view out of all the rooftops around Monastiraki -- from Lycabettus hill to the Acropolis and far beyond. If you are in the terrace it's always cool to see people walking on Monastiraki Square like ants.
So just to finish this text, if you are looking for a bar or coffee place in Central Athens with amazing views that doesn't look touristic at all, you should pay a visit :-).
