As I was drinking my coffee at the lovely café Merlin on the 1st floor of the B & M Theocharakis Foundation, which, by the way, is the ideal place for a midday coffee break, so classy and chic, it felt like I was having my hot beverage in a 19th century boudoir...I was thinking that there are few art institutions in Athens that promote the Greek artistic production of the 20th and 21st century in such prolific and successful ways as B & M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music has been doing since 2004.
I asked my dearest friend Anna Georgiadou, digital marketing & web Content coordinator of the Theocharakis Foundation, about the institution’s annual program and frankly I was amazed by the number of artworks of local and international artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau, that have been presented over the past few years!
The foundation plays host for the encounter between visual arts and music. Some of the most famous Modern Greek artists and musicians have been showcased at Basil and Marina Theocharakis’ early 20th century European style building, on the corner of Merlin and Vassilissis Sofias streets, just across the road from the Hellenic Parliament in Athens.
Simply put, visiting all four floors of the foundation can be an important, educative experience, as international visitors and the younger generation of Greeks explore the timeline of Modern Greek history through studying the outstanding artworks.
