Every Saturday morning, the orange awnings of Kallidromiou Street transform the street into a parallel world in the heart of Exarchia. Close to the Archaeological Museum of Athens (10 min away walking), under the hill of Strefi, in Kallidromiou you can find everything you would find in a central gourmet delicatessen, fresh fruits and vegetables, flower bouquets, and clothes as well!
This is more than an ordinary open market for me. I love to visit the market every Saturday morning and buy flowers for my friends and me. My 2 favorite sellers are the man with the 10 different goods of mushrooms and the other one when you “enter” the market at the left hand with the deli goods, you can find everything you want from a variety of natural products from Greece (honey, beverages, cheese, etc). Street artists play music, activists inform the passengers about actions. The best time for bargain hunters is at the closing (2:30 p.m.). You can enjoy lunch or a coffee in a plethora of cafes, bistorts, and taverns.
