Krikos Athens

The combination of almost everything

Margarita from Athens

About me I first came to live in Athens when I was 25. Until then I had spent all my years at University in Austria and had grown up in a little city in the south of Greece called Nafplio (by the way, that's a nice holiday destination!). Athens seemed to be enormous, ugly and loud to me. But still, it attracted me in its own peculiar way. Now I am still attracted to Athens even ...
""Krikos" Athens was my go-to when I use to live in the neighbourhood, given their cosy atmosphere and delicious coffee. Nice place to go on a sunny day..."

Vintage meets coffee and beer? Even more? Yep. Very close to where I used to live the past 2 years you can find "Krikos".

Krikos is separated into two rooms, one larger one and one smaller one where you can also find the kitchen where some goodie - goods are cooked. Both rooms have a rather vintage feeling to them with comfortable and beautiful old couches and tables. Even the vases there are vintage (the one in the photo is one of my favourite ones and I can hardly keep myself from stealing it!).

When I used to live close by and was too bored to make my own coffee or was just in the mood for a nice hot cappuccino I must admit, I just quickly dropped by and bought my coffee there! I do miss that in my new neighbourhood!

Right next to Krikos there is a square where during the summer they put out chairs and tables which makes it the perfect place to endure the hot summer heat.

As a sidenote: check out the Facebook site for concerts and stuff.

Athens seemed to be enormous, ugly and loud to me. But still, it attracted me in its own peculiar way. Now I am still attracted to Athens even though the city and the country has had its ups and downs. During this time, my life has also changed a thousand times and even though many keep asking "why are you still in Greece?" I can only respon...

Votsalakia beach

A beach at downtown Piraeus!

Votsalakia beach is one of my favourite spots to relax near Athens. Enjoy the view, its sports courts, a café, an open pool, and even a summer cinema.

House with Caryatids

An urban legend

The house is known for the two wonderful Caryatid sculptures located on the balcony of its facade. The house was built in the late 19th century and is a typical example of Athenian neoclassicism.

A music lovers' paradise

My favorite morning walk in the Monastiraki Flea Market always ends with a visit to Zaharias Records. Here I can browse a huge and ever-changing collection of second-hand vinyl records and CDs and always discover something to buy.

Agios Ioannis of the Column

A hidden gem

Agios Ioannis of the Column is one of the most interesting hidden attractions in the center of Athens. The church was built in the 6th century AD, and its sanctuary was formed around an ancient Corinthian column.

Louka Nika Street

A street art gallery

Street art has developed mainly in large urban centres, and Athens is no exception. The Psirri neighbourhood in the city centre is inextricably linked to the history of street art in Athens.

Mets

Athens most charming neighbourhood

Many artists, musicians, actors, and painters have relocated to Mets, giving it a more bohemian feel. There are only a handful of shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants in the area, a fact that creates a more intimate and cosy atmosphere.
