GIR is multi-brand retail space, a concept store, a furniture manufacturer and an exhibition/meeting place. It is located in New Belgrade, in a minimalist business building, but don’t let this distract you: once you enter the store (full of light and plants and designed by studio AUTORI), you will see how much it stands out from its surroundings.
In the past few years, the GIR’s has been collaborating with local artists and collectives, so they have hosted a few exhibitions and events in this space. However, the projects I am truly fond of – and probably is the most extravagant they’ve worked on so far – is a collection of design products, wooden figurines called The Balloon Parade made in collaboration with Bratislav Milenković, an acclaimed illustrator from Belgrade. This pastel-colored, imaginative collection, followed by a few great prints, reinvents the idea of an object that is supposed to be decorative.
GIR is not a place to go to if you wish to buy a souvenir or a cheap lamp – it is a designers’ store with a smart and high-quality offering: here you can find furniture and home accessories from brands such as Ethnicraft, Muuto, MENU, ferm LIVING and others. Also, here you will find products exclusively designed by regional and local designers and studios, and crafted in GIR factory, as part of their first collection, made solely from ash wood. You will be amazed by how innovative a piece of furniture can get.
