Berliners love to stay active, and it seems like everyone in the city is engaged in some sort of physical activity – whether it's the gym, swimming, or yoga; the options are endless. However, the most popular sport at the moment, and the one that attracts the cooler crowds, is definitely bouldering.
There are amazing bouldering clubs all over the city, and these are not only places to exercise; they also feature bars offering food and snacks and communal areas where you can even bring your laptop and get some work done. One can easily spend an entire afternoon at these multi-functional spaces. The atmosphere is friendly, and there’s a strong sense of community that makes it easy to meet new people and make friends.
One of my favourite bouldering clubs is the recently opened Urban Apes in the Friedrichshain neighbourhood, located in a beautiful building that used to be a wine cellar. Inside, the spacious area offers a variety of bouldering walls, so even during peak times, it doesn't feel overcrowded.
Even if you've never tried bouldering, don’t worry: the entry-level routes at Urban Apes are quite easy and perfect for beginners with no previous climbing experience. Inside the almost maze-like building, you’ll also find a gym, a yoga and stretching space, a chill-out area, and a café where, after all the effort, you can recharge with a tasty pizza and a well-deserved cold beer.

For €2, you can enjoy their falafel, shawarma, or kafta wrap. Their falafel wrap can be fully plant-based, too, just let them know, so they omit some sauces. They're better off as a snack because they're a bit on the smaller side.
