In Berlin's landscape of independent book stores, She Said sits in a pretty sweet spot: featuring books by female and queer authors only, it is just the kind of book store that was still missing. No wonder the visitors of this special bookstore are willing to queue up ever since it opened its door in December 2020.
While many bookstore today feature a shelf or two with feminist or anti-discrimination books, She Said goes beyond that. The founder Emilia von Sengers describes her concept as a "Frauenbuchhandlung 2.0", revisiting the first feminist bookstores of the 70s and 80s and welcoming not only female but also queer and non-binary authors.
The knowledgable team of She Said offers advice in multiple languages as well as English, German and French books (novels, non-fiction, children books, coffee table books as well as a few magazines). Not to forget: You can also find a small café with home-made treats amidst the wonderful book selection.
The customized, colorful interior and great location right at the border of the popular districts Neukölln and Kreuzberg certainly helped with making She Said the new go-to-place in town. Needless to say, everyone is welcome here - as long as they don't mind finding a lot of titles and authors usually missing on bestseller lists.
