To reach Grosser Muristalden, you have to get to the end of the old town and cross the Nydeggbrücke. This is an arched bridge over the Aare River with a view over the old town. So, the way to the bench is already a pleasure. Pass the Bärengraben afterwards and you will stand in front of a long uphill road. It may look exhausting, but it is absolutely worth it!
After you have passed Altes Tramdepot, you will come across a wooden bench. This is the spot I am talking about. While sitting on this bench, you can watch the most beautiful sunsets (or sunrises if you are an early bird). You have a beautiful view of the Aare River, the old town and one of Bern's landmarks, the Münster. Even for locals, this view is always magical. If you like, you can also bring a bottle of wine or a small picnic. That makes the evening twice as nice.
I like that this spot is not crowded or touristy. You have your privacy. After it has gotten dark, you can take a nice walk through the old town or enjoy a nightcap in Altes Tramdepot.

Nature is claiming back the city - a powerful image. The mural was painted by Paul Stämpfli in 1987, way before the world was discussing climate change.
