Architecture Faculty and ARChbooks Bratislava

Creative books

"Inside the "Bratislava Architecture Faculty" you can find a great selection of books in English on topics like urban planning, architecture, design..."

There is a little bookstore called ARChbooks hidden from public view, which is worth a visit. To get to it you must visit the campus of the Slovak University of Technology located around Namestie slobody.

You will find it inside the Faculty of Architecture, at first glance an austere looking building. It's one of the oldest buildings of the university, designed in a functionalist style when builders seemed to love marble & other expensive stones. The huge bright entrance hall faces the big square and is often used as an exhibition area for student's dissertation works, so you can almost always see little models of buildings or photos on display.

ARCHbooks is on the right hand side, hidden behind a glass door. The space recently underwent renovation and what you can see today is the design that won a student competition. It's quite small, but they have a great selection of books in English on topics such as urban planning, architecture, design, photography, garden planning and even art philosophy. A great place for anyone interested in all things around architecture, not just professionals. But they also supply books to students of the faculty. Imagine all those big shiny books of art you see in an ordinary bookshop but multiplied. You can visit even just for inspiration if you are renovating your house. They also sell the popular adult colouring books, Moleskine notebooks and Lonely Planet travel guides. It's a friendly spot for architecture and book lovers.

Lovely traditional Slovak buns

"Buchtáreň" is the best thing that could possibly happen in Bratislava. It's the first place to offer the traditional Slovak steam dumplings that we love.

Kapitulská street

A medieval walk

"Kapitulská street" is one of my favorite places in Bratislava because it's so unspoilt and underdeveloped, an authentic street in the Old Town.
