Hamam Mahshi or stuffed squab (pigeons) are a very well known dish in Egypt, and YES it is very delicious. Farahat Restaurant presents only local Egyptian dishes. It has a huge menu of grilled dishes like shish kebab & kofta (pieces of marinated meat and vegetables cooked and served on skewers), but the best dish it offers is the stuffed pigeons.
The pigeons are stuffed with either liver, rice or grits (the last one is my favorite).
The restaurant has a very humble decoration and doesn't have any spectacular views, but it compensates you with the perfect taste of the local Egyptian dishes.
I had been told that the stuffed pigeons in Farahat restaurant were the best not just in Cairo but in the whole of Egypt, and I never knew how accurate that statement was until I tried it here. After also having it tried in many other restaurants, I can agree.
