The "Apostelnmarkt" is definitely an absolute gourmet foods farmer's market. In contrast to the rough, loud and crowded Wilhelmplatz market in Nippes that takes place every day of the week, this one is neat, calm and has about twenty pretty little stands. You don't visit the "Apostelnmarkt" with the goal of finding a quick bargain.
However, the market has good offers here and there, which you stumble upon whilst strolling across the market, preferably with a coffee from Ralph Tonger who owns the smallest mobile roastery in Cologne, which you can also find at this market.
Most of the times I ask my friend who lives just around the corner to come out with me, so we can chat while going on a relaxed shopping spree, and sample various cheeses and dips, or buy a few vegetables and admire the broad range of beautiful and really affordable flowers from the four flower vendors. Just like with most people in Cologne you can easily get into a conversation with those who work or visit the market.
