The Thielenbruch Railway Museum was set up by the Historische Straßenbahn Köln e.V. (Cologne Historic Tramway Association). In this museum you can see more than 20 trams, a model railway, historical props of the Cologne tramway and technical objects (e.g. an old signal box wall and a historical city map). There are two tram cars for children to try their hand at driving and a scissor pantograph to lift.
Inside the museum you will also find snacks such as pancakes and coffee. Outside the museum there is a Swabian restaurant, Aubele's Restaurant am Straßenbahn-Museum Köln, where you can eat one of my favourite German dishes: Käsespätzle with ham and fried onions. Nearby is the 8th stage of the Kölnpfad (a 171km trail around Cologne).
The museum is open every second Sunday of the month, and members of the society are on hand to answer any questions you may have. Admission to the museum is €1 for children, €1.5 for adults, and for an additional €5, you can take a virtual trip through time.
