Located in the very hip neighbourhood of Vesterbro, Beat opened its doors in 2016 and quickly became my go-to record store. The main reason is that Beat is more than just your average record store. In addition to their wide selection of new vinyl releases and reprints it’s also a bookstore where you can get biographies, autobiographies, memoirs and music history. You’ll find all genres from jazz to pop, psyched to electronica, hip hop to country, on vinyl as well as in writing.
Another reason is, that compared with other music stores in Copenhagen, the price level is very reasonable, which applies for both books and records.
Despite the reasonable prices, it’s a good thing that Beat isn't located in my own neighbourhood, otherwise the bank would probably end up taking away my credit card.
Adjacent to the store, Beat has opened its very own cafe, serving toast sandwiches, beer, coffee and cocktails. What better setting for gathering strength before - or after - a good vinyl hunt. And you are guaranteed good background music.
