Here in Copenhagen the Royal Library is called the Black Diamond. The Black Diamond has an original architecture which is very simple yet very modern.
The building of the Black Diamond was built in 1999 as an addition to the already existing library and the two buildings are connected together, there even is a road going under the building. The architectural firm that won the competition to create this amazing building, is "Schmid, Hammer og Lassen". The 2.500m2 facade of the Black Diamond consists of mostly Absolute Black granite from Zimbabwe, cut and polished in northern Italy. The building therefore looks like a black diamond when the sun is shining and the water next to it reflects onto the facade of the building.
Besides all of this, the Black Diamond is a very popular place to go study in peace and quiet for a busy student with exams hanging over his/her head like a ghost. The café on the bottom floor called "Øieblikket" is also worth a visit.
Anytime of the year, there are also exhibitions in the Black Diamond.
