Planning a romantic visit to Dublin? Then a visit to Whitefriar Street Church should be on the top of your list. What makes this church different from others is that it is home to the relics of Mr. Romance himself, Saint Valentine. In fact I walked past this very spot every day for many years before finding out myself.
In 1835 the church was gifted the relics which include a vial of the martyr's blood. Arriving by procession through the streets of Dublin on November 10th 1836 the saints remnants are now contained in a brass chest within a specially constructed alter. On February 14th they are given pride of place on the high alter when special masses in Valentine's honor take place. On the other 364 days of the year you are free to drop in and ask the saint to send love your way. There is a book on top of the alter for you to write your requests. I popped in with one particularly lovelorn friend a few years ago who made a heartfelt request for someone to come his way. Someone did indeed come into his life but hopefully Saint Valentine will be kinder to you if you make a similar request!
Dublin can be a very romantic city at any time of the year so when you are in town why not pay a visit. Whitefriar Street Church could provide the perfect backdrop to pop that most important of questions!
