In my point of view, the archetype of “the girl next door” suits this ice cream shop perfectly: 200 meters from my doorstep, it’s small, simply furnished and far from the posh city centre. But if you are in the area and you sight a big queue on the pavement, you’re in front of Il Sorriso! Simply because it (like the girl next door) might not be the fanciest, but is the one you fall in love with.
Gelato can be made in many different ways, and it’s up to you to decide which one is the best for you. Il Sorriso’s gelato is less creamy but smoother, the kind of ice cream that melts on your tongue (and your fingers), is very sweet but still tastes genuine. Even if I normally like the creamy ones, this one’s lighter and doesn’t sit heavily in your stomach all afternoon, reminding you of your guilt. Il Sorriso’s production of cakes and little ice cream desserts are a perfect gift to bring to a friend’s home. For example the victoria sponge cake with ice cream and Nutella is my own official birthday cake.
I highly recommend the fruit flavours they make in summer, and also their most iconic flavour: the “Fiordinutella” (milk and nutella) they’ve made it for more than a decade and nobody’s tired of it yet. Also, are you a vegan? There’s choice for you too!
In conclusion: massive portions for little prices! Buon Gelato!
