Orti Dipinti is not just a simple garden. Hidden in the very city centre, across the street from one of the most luxurious hotels in Florence, at first glance, it appears to be a charming yet straightforward garden, complete with benches, plants, and the usual relaxing ambiance. However, if you take a few steps in, you'll discover yourself in a genuine greenhouse, where vegetables ripen and flowers bloom, all thanks to the volunteering citizens!
It's assembled on the running track once used by an association that worked with disabled children, many of whom still volunteer in the garden. Consequently, actual ground is entirely absent. In fact, the plants are cultivated in wooden crates and watered through "sub-irrigated clay pot pitchers" that save up to 70% of the water typically required for irrigation. But their work doesn't stop at planting and harvesting! In short, it's a laboratory concept with the goal of promoting nutritional awareness and sustainable urban development, while also encouraging culture and integration. They achieve this through workshops, courses, and simple volunteer work.
If you have a green thumb or are seeking a relaxing and rewarding hobby, Orti Dipinti eagerly awaits new volunteers from Monday to Saturday, between 10:00 and 13:00! Don't forget to explore their shop, where you can purchase your very own "Seed Bomb"—a genuine weapon in the fight against urban ugliness! These bombs take a few months, but then, BOOM! Flowers everywhere!
