I love the buzz and activeness of the city, but also enjoy stepping out of the noise and traffic around me sometimes. Professor Martin Lücker’s regular free organ concerts at St. Katharinen Church at Hauptwache are an excellent short break! Every Monday and Thursday (except on holidays) the organist performs for a half-hour concert starting at 16:30.
I am always quite amazed how many people seem to come regularly, others just seem to drop in to enjoy the peaceful and masterful concerts by the professional musician who is also a professor at the local school of music and performing art. He plays on a Rieger organ built in 1990.
When I sit in the rows of benches of St. Katherinen listening to the music of Bach, Reger and other composers performed by Professor Martin Lücker, I forget the worries of everyday life at the sound of the organ.
Check the website for the detailed program (Lücker plays different pieces of music every time) and the dates. Concerts are free, entry through the side entrance.
(The organ in the picture is not the Rieger Organ, which is in the back of the church.)
