Strangely, there isn't a lot to say about this place. There's nothing particularly special about this tiny West End bar, with its lovely log fire, its dark corners and big bright people-watching windows. If my dog Winnie could talk she'd have lot more to say about the very dog friendly atmosphere, the speed with which the treats get to her and how much attention she gets!
It's more a question of ambience here at The Belle. For years it was just a dark little empty bar frequented by an older, more troubled clientele. But now as the West End coolness ever expands it's a lively, talkative and buzzing little place. The drink is good, continental and diverse and the snacks are very much geared towards the beer drinker out for chats, laughs and relaxation.
The Belle is situated on the endless Great Western Road, which is sprouting new and interesting bars, restaurants and cafes seemingly every other month. The Belle is frequented by many dog owners because of its relaxed atmosphere (some bars claiming to be dog friendly sometimes have a lot of rules). This makes the pub a happy wee place, perfect to while away an afternoon with an impromptu couple of pints and doggy chat with the regulars.
I pop in for a rich stout, a bowl of olives and some spicy nuts at least once a week and am met with a smile, nod and a wagging tail.
