I'm not the biggest fan of German cuisine, but there is one thing I really love and always miss deeply whenever I travel to other countries - our bakeries. I'm a big sweet tooth and I love most pastries - however, my all time favorite is our Franzbrötchen, a delicious, divine pastry with cinnamon, which you can only get around Hamburg. There are all kinds of variations - with chocolate, with crumbles, with seeds..I actually prefer the plain type. But beware - not every bakery knows how to make them!
At the Kleine Konditorei however, they know their business. I personally think, they sell the best Franzbrötchen in town (once they actually won a prize for the best Franzbrötchen). Apart from their delicious pastries, they are one of the few bakeries that actually still bake their bread themselves and they do this at highest quality.
At this bakery, you can buy delicious bread and buns for your Sunday morning breakfast. My favorites are their Karottenbrötchen (carrot bun), Drei-Korn - Nussbrötchen (nut bun) or Mehrkornbrötchen (whole grains bun). I also love their carrot bread.
On the weekend, it usually gets pretty crowded, but don't worry, even if the line looks scary, you usually don't have to wait for too long. Oftentimes you can even have a free coffee while waiting for your bread. You will only find this bakery in the area of Eimsbüttel, but here they have four different stores.
