For electronic music, clubbing and trendy places to go out to, red-brick-tiled Elanto block is the main hub of Kallio in Helsinki. It’s basically the area between Hämeentie, Kaikukatu, Lintulahdenkatu and Lintulahdenkuja a bit south from Sörnäinen (metro). Old production plants, warehouses, and even a match factory from 1874 have been transformed into a hip, small but dense social life and club complex. It’s normally full of action on weekends!
The most visible spot of Elanto block is Siltanen x Onda with the entrance on Hämeentie. I'd go there for a portion or a Saturday brunch with a nice world food twist, daily deejays or an occasional live show! But there are also many good alternatives just around the corner!
Väinö Kallio gives a tight race for Onda for a good lunch or lovely brunch on weekends. Tanner in the same Kaikukatu corner is a stylish restaurant & bar focusing on breakfast, deluxe pizzas and even a vinyl shop(!) daytime. But better yet, it turns into a cool bar in the early evenings when they have excellent deejays playing with superb sound.
However, if you see me in the area, I might be on my way from Kaikukatu to the inner yard of Elanto block! If you are into house, electronic music and techno, Kaiku club is the place to enjoy some of the best international DJ sets in Helsinki. Next to it, Kuudes Linja has stood there for years as a popular but intimate live music and club venue.
