Notorious Sea Horse also known as Sikala “piggery” is one of the most traditional restaurants in Helsinki. I tend to go there every now and then when I feel like eating honest Finnish food or showcase Finnish flavours for international guests. I think Sea Horse is a great place to experience Finnish home food in an extremely simple environment. Sea Horse resonates with the Finnish mentality, of being very moderate and humble, well.

Sea Horse serves lunch and dinner and unlike many restaurants in Helsinki it is open seven days a week. Usually the challenge in Helsinki is finding a restaurant on Sunday evening so here you have a good option. During lunch time Sea Horse serves classics like peasoup or meatballs. The dinner menu features famous onion steak as well as crispy fried Baltic herrings or reindeer. Sea Horse is especially popular among culture industry people as well as students and tourists. You can absolutely go there as you are, without any fancy dress or similar attire.
