When I visit Hagia Sophia Mosque I am always amazed by the chandeliers hanging from the great dome. The dome that has withstood the test of time and is still one of the biggest miracles of architecture.
While visiting the museum the chandeliers are one of the most attractive factors of the inner atmosphere. Almost 1.5 years ago one day when I entered the great structure, I noticed that the lights in the great chandeliers have been replaced with fluorescent lights. I was shocked. At that moment I realized how important the lighting in reflecting the beauty of St. Sophia. Unfortunately the fluorescent was a disaster.
After a couple of months I read in a newspaper that; "Hollywood actor and director Ben Affleck wasn't very happy when he saw the lighting at the Hagia Sophia in İstanbul where he shot scenes for his latest movie Argo. With the cooperation of the museum management the film crew changed the lighting in the historic museum," I was so happy.
I immediately went to the museum and observed these great chandeliers. They were once again lovely. So the next time you get a chance to visit Hagia Sophia don't forget to examine the chandeliers and keep this tiny story in mind.
