We cant talk about Turkish food without mentioning its famous kebaps and of course Gaziantep is the best place and has different versions from those in the rest of Turkey.
Me and my best friend found this kind of shabby-looking place while we were looking for hidden spots one Sunday afternoon in Ferikoy. We were amazed by all the old houses, churches, antique shops and many more things that made us think that time was stopped in the 80's in this neighbourhood. And to think I don't live far from this area.
That's how we found Tahir Usta or basically Tahir Chef while we were walking around. The place doesn't really look like a fancy place to sit down but we saw many people were in the queue so we thought "let's give it a try".
They obviously offer many different kind of kebaps, pide, lahmacun (Turkish pizza) and desserts. What funny was, there were many foreigners sitting and having kebaps so Tahir Chef must have its own fans already. It was a shame for me to not have been before.
If you are really looking for a place to have tradidional kebaps in Istanbul, that is your spot for sure. Plus, it's far cheaper than the many kebap restaurants you can find on the internet.
