Sprawling across a handful of intersecting streets, the marketplace accommodates approximately 500 businesses. The wide-ranging businesses include greengrocers, herb shops, fishmongers, delicatessens, bakeries, bookstores, electronic stores, gift shops, pet shops, and antique stores.
While the shops spill out onto the pedestrian street with their colorful goods and products, restaurant tables set outside offer glimpses of many different types of food in between. You turn your head one way to see long tables of people raising slim rakı glasses gleefully in the air for a toast, and the other way to see someone bargaining with a second-hand bookseller for a box of old issues of National Geographic, all the while one of the nearby church bells chimes.
Kadıköy Produce Market has no shortage of food or shops, but what stays with you is the feeling of the place — its own rhythm, going on with or without you, as the market moves and hums around you. That is something impossible to find in a mall or in the more modern, manicured marketplaces of newly refurbished neighborhoods. One important ingredient that gives it a life of its own is its history, which spans more than five hundred years. Walking through it, you realize it is a living thread and more than a place to shop, connecting the city’s past, present, and the people who pass through it every day.

My suggestion is to take the route from Taksim Square to Tünel and continue exploring nice neighborhoods like Çukurcuma, Asmalı Mescit, or Galata.

This Scandivanian-style, two-floor café has a simple yet tastefully decorated interior. And the small open kitchen adds a touch of warmth and authenticity.
