This romantic neighbourhood park is named Guerra Junqueiro Garden, but everyone calls it Jardim da Estrela (Estrela Garden). It dates back to 1852, and is a lovely spot for reading, for children to play or to work out. It's right across from the Estrela Basilica and has duck ponds, a playground, an old wrought-iron bandstand, a kiosk and a café with outdoor seating for light meals. In between it all are several exotic plants and sculptures.
Imagine yourself sitting in one of the branches just enjoying the peace and quiet of Jardim da Estrela. It is the perfect way to start another day of tourism in Lisbon, because you can visit the Estrela Basilica, the Cemitério Dos Prazeres and enjoy the route of tram 28 just around the corner.
If you are lucky in the first weekend of each month there's a craft and design fair from 10:00 to 19:00, and on summer weekends, it's also one of the stages of the Out Jazz music festival.
This is one of the green areas that Lisbon offers to its inhabitants and tourists and besides being free it's always very clean and well preserved.
This is my secret place, that place where I go whenever I need to think and make decisions. It's the calm that this site conveys that makes it magical and a great suggestion.
