Although this place can easily be found and even read about in several tourist guides, I think its importance makes it a relevant spot to point out. In fact, its presence in some tourist guides might actually make it lose the importance among so many other points of interest.
Manteigaria Silva's history dates back to the 19th century; here you can taste and buy the genuine Portuguese cheese "Serra da Estrela" seasoned according to the ancient and traditional way on a wooden board. Although new laws tend to end the traditional way of ancient things, Mr. José Branco insists on doing things as they are supposed to be done and in ways he has learned during his entire life.
Besides the mentioned cheese, Manteigaria Silva has a specialized range of delicatessen, fine wines, nuts and various quality of cod species from Iceland and Norway. One thing I'm sure of in this place: the products are top quality!
I'll leave you with a suggestion that starts exactly in this spot and that will take you on a tour of flavors; cheese, ham and olive oil is just the start, at Manteigaria Silva, of a tour that a good friend of mine – Filipa Valente - organizes and that will lead you to a unique experience. Check it at Taste of Lisboa. It's worthy!
