Marquise is an artisan bakery. If you aren't familiar with the term, it means they make bread that is slow fermented with sourdough starter using just essentials, water, locally produced and milled flour, and salt. No substitutes, enhancers, or conservants. Quality is the main criterion, not the quantity.
It's my favourite bakery, whether it comes to pastry or bread. I love their pão de trigo (wheat bread), or on Saturdays, they also have barbela bread (barbela is an ancient local flour variety). When I choose the pastry I favour the pain suisse filled with custard and chunks of dark chocolate, glazed with syrup. Ultimate guilty pleasure.
You should also check their fridge they usually have bottles of freshly made juice, ginger beer, or kombucha. Homemade hummus and cheese.
Next door is their coffee and brunch place with the same name. It has a lovely jungle terrace in the backyard, and shelves are full of beautiful ceramics. Grab your lunch or breakfast and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings.
