Do you experience that deep nostalgic feeling when you remember how it was going to the theater? You know… in those AC (ante Covid-19 – this is how I call life before pandemic) times? That tingling feeling in your stomach when the lights go out and you wait for the show to start. The whole audience bursting into laughter, gasping with shock or sobbing with tears as one. The loud applause and standing ovations at the end. I admit. I miss it.
I have probably visited the majority of Ljubljana's theatres, Ljubljana City Theatre MGL being the one I most likely visited more often than others. Why? They tend to give a modern twist to even most traditional pieces – such as Midsummer Night's Dream for example. They have an amazing ensemble. AND their prices are more than affordable. HOWEVER. All this does not stand a chance against globally spread virus… or does it? Throughout the lockdown MGL became vigorously active on their Youtube channel, delighting us all with various content - from screenings of their theatrical crime series (Vranja vrata and Praznina spomina) to conversational pieces. Their excellence has been once more crowned this year, with their actress Jette Ostan Vejrup winning the Borštnik Award for Acting (you can see this great diva in action in 7 dni theatre piece). Chapeau!
