I’m sure you already noticed how we Slovenians like to pat ourselves on the back for getting ever more sustainable and woke when it comes to a healthy lifestyle, with visits to nature being on the top of that list. However - if you read my description - it's probably already dawned on you that I am not one of the hip mountain hikers, nor am I a marathon runner. My kind of health is more zen. So if you’re like me and you have a bit of a granny inside of you, I have a perfect spot.
Northern City Park is one of the best choices when it comes to going for walk, not just because of its beautiful design but also because it promotes so many of the things I care about. The criss-cross paths with a line of great authors greeting you in their bust form; the not-so-fragile Girl with a Growing Book, a statue with a base full of verses, reminding us how deep the roots of the Slovene language actually run. Heck, even the amazing installation of two benches in the name of Czech Václav Havel, celebrating democratic dialogue. Or the Navje commemorative park, where you can pay your respects to the builders of Slovene culture, like impressionist Ivan Grohar.
And last but not least! The great sea-themed playground, where even I like to climb on the big rocking boat and yell “AHOY SAILORS.”
