I noticed that only few spots in Ljubljana lie on the outskirts of the city, so I want to present you with a hidden jewel just 5 minutes from my home: a petanque and bowling club called Sloga, which in Slovenian means "unity". It's located in Sneberje, near the river Sava and has petanque and bowling fields, a basketball course and beach volleyball field, all of them totally free of charge, since it is a local thing.
During the entire year it's a popular gathering place for locals from nearby villages, children and youth who spend their free time playing and doing sports here. It is really a nice place to relax, even in autumn and winter, because if you don't jog or do any other sports, you can hike along river Sava stream and observe the sunset away from the city rush. If you're feeling cold you can get tea, coffee and other hot beverages in the yellow barrack, where the club is located. There you can listen to local dialects, stories or watch ski runs or jumps.
Getting there is not so hard if you're a bit of an adventurer and not afraid of Ljubljana public transport. Catch bus no. 12 at the main bus station and ride it to bus stop Sneberje. Walk along the road till the crossroad at the end of the village. Turn left and follow the road to the parking lot – you're there. If having problems, ask the locals.
