Whacko is one of the most eclectic gift shops in LA. This, and Leanna Lin's Wonderland. They're original and have everything from art to magical cards, gifts and nostalgic things. I came here for birthday gifts, and treated myself to Owl Tarot Cards, an anatomical heart puzzle, and a beautiful gold embossed birthday card that says, "Today, The Universe Revolves Around You". The items here are very unique.
The vibe is right. Not too standoff-ish. Not too cool. Just right. It's the kind of place that supports underground art and the independent spirit. Lots of the items sold in the store are from local vendors: Books, toys, and essential oils, too! I bought a Jasmine essential oil made in LA that's still half-full today.
The best part about Whacko, is that inside, you'll find La Luz de Jesus Christo Art Gallery. One of the most fascinating, underground art galleries in Los Angeles. It's the real heart of independent LA art. There's every type of art here, from painting to collage to sculpture to fabric to comics and drawings. Come for an open house/exhibition.
Together, Whacko and La Luz de Jesus Christo are a must-visit LA spot. They're the perfect place to look at art in Hollywood and shop LA artisans. The gifts are original. The art is 1000%. The vibes are right. Real eclectic. Real original.
