The ruins of the old dockyard are located in Västra Hamnen, just a few steps away from the central station and the Malmö University campus area. The history of Kockum's dockyard goes back to the late 19th century, and the place has been shut down since the 1980s.
Despite the dockyard’s historical significance, its surroundings have been let to go to pot over the years. Today, the ruins of the dockyard are a striking contrast to the modern architecture in Västra Hamnen. The place is full of graffiti, which makes it a great location for taking cool shots.
This industrial area in Västra Hamnen is one of my favourites in Malmö, since it’s so different and distinctive for the rest of the city central area. There are also other good locations for urban exploring and photographing nearby Kockums dockyard. I highly recommend visiting the area before it's demolished completely, and some modern housing complexes and skyscrapers are built in its place.
