Just around the corner from the Lilla Torg square where most visitors soon end up after arriving to Malmö, MJ’s is a hotel that has recently undergone a complete renovation and shortened its name.
Stepping inside you’re welcomed to a wonderfully decorated lobby bar and atrium. Even hotel guests looking for the reception are pleasantly surprised to find that the check-in is a discreet and quick process handled by the bar, and many Malmö residents I know have still yet to discover this gem after its renovation.
MJ’s even has a ’mood enhancer’ whose job includes making sure the atrium and bar areas are always as cosy as possible for patrons.
Despite the drinks having hefty price tags similar to common mixed drinks at the bustling bars of Lilla Torg, their drinks are actually worth it due to the bartender quality and atmosphere in the bar area.
The restaurant in the forest-themed atrium area has a large-tapas concept. The food is good, but pricey for the portion sizes, so I recommend staying in the bar. But take a look around the atrium and get a picture sitting on the pink flamingo chair.
My favourite thing is sitting in the cosiest, most comfortable sofas imaginable in the bar by candlelight to enjoy one of MJ’s superb cocktails. I even saw a guy fall asleep one time from being so comfortable while his girlfriend was ordering.
Note, the cocktail bartender starts working at 4pm each day.
